A number of folks have done a good job debunking the NYT's story that veterans of Afghanistan and Iraq are responsible for a rash of murders, and suggesting that this bogus assertion reveals the NYT bias against the military.

First, what made the NYT decide to look into the number of alleged murders by veterans You wouldn't think that the NYT would ordinarily decide to even report on, let alone follow up on, single victim murders in Las Vegas, Texas and Tucson, the first cities where the first three examples the article cites took place. Something made the NYT pick up the thread and decide to follow up.

And just as bias can be demonstrated by what one does, it can also be shown by what one doesn't do. Has the NYT done a comparable study of murders committed by those out on parole, or those on bail, awaiting trial, or by those previously convicted of so-called victimless crimes? Have they looked into the number of people killed by illegal immigrants?

No, I didn't think so either.
