According to Bush, democracy was the elixir that would cure all that ails the Middle East and would lead to the end of Islamic terrorism... a view that a beating when, in a free election, the Palestinians gave Hamas a majority in the Palestinian legislature.

And now that Abbas has formed a new government that doesn't include Hamas, Bush has turned the aid spigot back on... notwithstanding that the Abbas government lacks support from the Palestinians, hasn't demonstrated much of a committment to ending terrorism against Israel, and has made no effort to purge itself of the corrupt elements that caused so much misery in the first place.

If Abbas wasn't worth supporting a couple of years ago, why should he get any help now?
