The story of the man who died of exposure while seeking help for his snowbound family is sad in so many ways...

Sad for the survivors - his wife and two daughters - who not only are without a husband and father but now know that he would be alive had he stayed with them in the car.

And it's sad for the dad whose last thoughts as he was succumbing to the effects of exposure were quite possibly that not only that he would never see his family again but that he had failed his family, that they were dying because he hadn't the strength to reach safety.

It would be nice - or at least, a bit less sad - if there was indeed a heaven where he could look down and see his family still alive.
