Here's a question for all those inclined to support Bush's amnesty plan:
If the 10 million or so illegal immigrants were not already in America, would you support bringing in 10 million mostly non-English speaking, relatively uneducated, low-skilled workers who would likely consume more in social services than they contribute in taxes, who would send a good portion of the money they earned out of the country and who would have no particular interest in learning English or assimilating themselves into American culture and society? I wouldn't. IF... America is suffering from a lack of human capital, wouldn't it make more sense to bring in high-skilled workers who already speak English and who very much want to become part of America? I think so... |
