John Hawkins has a rebuttal for those (and here and here, to cite a few) who think the Gang of 14 have been proven right by the outcome of the Alito hearings...

I agree with John... that the sky didn't fall after they made their deal doesn't mean that it was a good thing. There's no proof that the Democrats would have filibustered Alito even without such a deal in place... in fact, the reason they didn't filibuster Alito had nothing to do with the deal that was struck, it had everything to do with the fact that they couldn't muster enough Democratic support for a filibuster (I may not have said that particularly clearly, but it makes sense to me).

After all, when even the Washington Post comes out and encourages his confirmation, what hope do the radical Democrats have of gaining enough support to block him?
