Patterico has the story of a professor who tried to get Paul Deignan in trouble.

While I agree with Patrick that what this guy did was pathetic and contemptible, reading through Paul's comments makes me wonder why Paul bothererd to go up against somebody so obviously off the deep end of reality.

When I first started working, the guy I worked for told me there are only two reasons to make an argument: because you think you can use your superior knowledge to persuade them to see things your way, or because you know the other side is never going to agree with you and you're just looking to jerk them around. In this case, given the amount of liberal venom coming from the hostess of the site Paul went commenting on, you'd have to figure that Paul was there, not because he thought he was going to convert them to the conservative cause, but rather to jerk them around.

And, as pappy used to say, when you jerk somebody, sometimes they jerk back. And they seem to have done so with Paul.

Now, this doesn't mean I'm blaming Paul for what happened, anymore than you blame the crime victim for being attacked... but, at the same time, you have to wonder about the sanity of someone who willingly walks into the dark alley.
