Jay Tea lays out a case for why Cindy Sheehan's 'sacrifice' doesn't entitle her to a meeting with President Bush and points out that "Mrs. Sheehan did not sacrifice her son. She lost him; he sacrificed himself...".

Indeed, NONE of these definitions for sacrifice apply to Mrs. Sheehan. She did not (1) offer her son up in homage to a deity - she wasn't offering up anything and, in any event, who exactly is the deity she is paying tribute to? Nor did she (2) forfeit something of value for something of higher value - while Casey's life was certainly valuable, and he sacrificed his life for something he valued, as his mother certainly is not a like mind in this regard, this definition doesn't work for her. She didn't (3) relinquish something at less than its real value - as Jay points out, she did not relinquish anything; I doubt that if it were up to her, her son would even have been in the military, let alone in Iraq. And we're not (4) talking baseball here.

Actually, what we're seeing here is a replay of what happened after Nicholas Berg was murdered by terrorists in Iraq. Berg's father attempted to do the very same thing that Cindy Sheehan is doing... turn the attention away from those who are really responsible for the deaths of Casey Sheehan and Nicholas Berg in order to pursue their anti-war, anti-Bush agendas. Fortunately, despite the best efforts of both the MSM and the lefties to keep the story going, Berg's father's attempt to do so proved to be a short term fizzle. Hopefully, the sad saga of Cindy Sheehan's crusade will fade into obscurity as well.
