Powerline links to a survey that shows the majority of Americans not only want to keep Guantanamo open but also approve of the way we treat the detainees held there.

I want to quibble with John's suggestion that the 37% of the responders who disapprove of the way we are handling the detainees are laying "awake at night worrying that a terrorist's air conditioning might not be properly adjusted".

I'm ticked off they have air-conditioning. I'm ticked off that our guards have to wear gloves when handling the Koran. I'm ticked off that they haven't been exposed to 'special means'. These people are our enemies. We don't owe them hot meals and cold showers (or is it the other way around?). They're lucky they weren't taken out back and shot. Perhaps now, the information they have is stale, but I bet it wasn't at the time they were captured. To not use every means available to get that information sentences some number of Americans to death.

As for the other 'don't approve' responders, just remember they're more against Bush and anything and everything associated with him than they are concerned about the plight of the detainees. Does anyone really think that Dick Durbin made his comments because of his concern for the detainees? Or is it all just about bashing Bush?

Just wondering...
