It turns out that Canada's withdrawal from the joint US-Canada missile defense program had less to do with squabbles over the program than with the Canadian government being upset with Washington's trade policies... this according to the Canadian Ambassador, who "suggested the missile defense decision might have been different if the United States had moved faster in resolving trade disputes". It seems that Canada feels they are more in danger from our refusing to take their diseased cows than from missile strikes from, say, North Korea. Who knows, given how sad their economy is right now, they might be right.
