Google certainly had the right to fire the blogger who worked there - I have no sympathy for someone who takes public shots at their employer. But I wonder if this episode is evidence of a change in the Google culture? Pre-IPO, pre-growth, would Google's employees been the type to bitch about their benefits package? Or has Google grown so fast that they've had to bring in employees who are more interested in pay and perks than in building a truly great company? And, would the pre-IPO, pre-growth Google have considered this to have been a firing offense? Or has Google gone bureaucratic, becoming more interested in setting and enforcing rules than in fostering an environment in which their employees could build a truly great company?
